Veterans Administration Hospital (Bldg 101) - Air Handlers Upgrades ProjectThis Design-Build project is an upgrade to the VA Hospital’s Air Handlers, located on Portland’s Marquam Hill. Project objective is to extend existing HVAC system’s life by 20 years. To that end, Hydro-Temp is replacing the existing heating coils, cooling coils, mechanical room piping, humidifiers, filter banks, variable speed motor drives, and DDC controls systems. In addition, Huntair Fanwalls will replace existing air handler standard fans. Compared to existing equipment, these fans offer significant improvement in system performance, energy usage, and mitigate noise/vibration operational impacts.

Critical laboratory experiments coupled with a fully occupied building, limit HVAC shutdown times to only a few hours at a time. Hydro-Temp will manage and coordinate the installation of the replacement work with great precision, to reduce or eliminate impact on building operations. Additional care will be taken in the removal and installation process, given the site constrains and limited access.
